First Round, Lead Position, Build Industries

A venture capital firm that continues to be a "challenger"

Since its founding in 2010, Incubate Fund (IF) has managed more than 620 billion yen and invested in more than 400 companies through its affiliated funds. This makes IF the largest independent venture capital firm in Japan specializing in seed stage startups.

We at IF believe our ability to continue investing in startups in their earliest stage over time is proof of our expertise in building trust relationships with entrepreneurs and the communities in which they operate.

One of our most important beliefs is that our goal is to support the challenges of aspiring entrepreneurs in their endeavors. In supporting our portfolio companies, we take the perspective of the entrepreneur while also being a strong partner so that our founders can focus on what’s most important - growing their business.

As a lead investor, we develop strong conviction in our investments and provide the capital necessary for these companies to succeed in their first 24 months. The entrepreneur plays the lead role, while we see ourselves as the kuroko, the term for stagehands in traditional kabuki theater who dress all in black and make sure the behind the scenes work runs smoothly. However, we also know how to take a bigger role and work even more closely with entrepreneurs to co-found a company together.

Additionally, to engage with entrepreneurs close to launching their company, we have been running Incubate Camp, a seed-stage accelerator program, since 2010. Many startups that have participated in Incubate Camp have gone on to raise significant funding and have achieved rapid growth. Incubate Camp also serves as a core community for venture capitalists and provides social infrastructure for all entrepreneurs who are considering starting their own venture.

Moving forward, we will continue to support the creation of new businesses and entrepreneurs in the challenges they face.
